![]() They are certainly very strange albums (Destroyer of Worlds is probably the closest to what Bathory was doing otherwise by that point) but I find that they are strangely compelling regardless. Never said it was a popular opinion, but it's the one I hold for sure. Is there something I'm missing about Bathory's supposed genius aside from it simply being the first band to produce black metal? Is it the arrangement of the notes themselves? The melodies? Something special about the vocals? I prefer to think of Bathory as the black metal band that walked so the black metal bands of today can run. At times I wonder if this is a "appeal to tradition" fallacy at work. There have been countless bands since Bathory that have composed far more musically unique and complex songs, yet they are often considered poor for failing to live up to the lo-fi and instrumental standards set by Bathory. I still find it to be a great album, just a little overrated like the Bathory band/project in general. okay, I guess? The drum cycles feel a bit repetitive, and the guitar solos, while excellent, sound identical to a first-time listener. "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" is popularly considered the best black metal album ever written, but I find just. However, when it comes to Bathory's music itself, I fail to see what's so special about it. I own about half of Bathory's discography and plan to complete my collection someday, and I also have a great deal of respect for Quorthon's accomplishments in pioneering two major subgenres. ![]() ![]() Don't get me wrong I still enjoy Bathory. It is not uncommon to see users who consider Quorthon to be a musical genius, but I honestly do not understand how or why he is considered this. Therefore Himmy was more than four times the average weight.R/BlackMetal is a subreddit dedicated to the dissemination of black metal music and related news (new releases, tour/gig dates, etc.) Rules He had Turkish Van markings.Ĭomment: the average weight of the domestic is about 10 pounds. I think nowadays people are far more reluctant to celebrate through records extemes in domestic cat anatomy if health is negatively affected as there is a concern that obesity might be encouraged. To be clear, these heaviest of all domestic cats were not heavy because they were large in stature but because they were overfed and obese. This is about 6 pounds short of the weight of Himmy but his picture gives you an idea as to what Himmy must have looked like. We don’t have a photograph of Himmy (correction a colleague of mine has produced a picture – see above and comments) but by way of a comparison in weight I have published on this page a photograph of Meow who weighed 18 Kg and who died of pulmonary failure on May 5, 2012. Moving forward to 2012, the Metro newspaper has a photograph of a cat called Meow at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society of New Mexico. In 1992 the contest was repeated and the heaviest cat that they could come up with was a tomcat called Morris living in Kansas who could not even match the weight of Spike. They did find a very heavy tabby cat called Spike living in Iowa but he only managed a relatively modest 37 pounds (16.8 kg). In 1991 an American magazine held a contest to see if there was an American cat who could outweigh Himmy, but they failed to find one.
